Saying 33

(33) Jesus said, "Preach from your housetops that which you will hear in your ear. For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel, nor does he put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it on a lampstand so that everyone who enters and leaves will see its light."

The hidden things of Christ should be made public, not kept secret. The word גג housetop means 'pursue in heaven and earth'. Thomas says to make it well known. Augustine actually killed the practice of interpreting the scriptures in this way. He pushed for favoring the Septuagint, a translation in Greek, rather than the original Hebrew. This hid much of the hidden meaning behind the translation.
