Were Adam and Eve intimate before they ate the forbidden fruit?

Most assuredly. Adam observed the animals long enough to name them by their reputations. These reputations can be seen in the dietary law. https://sensusplenior.net/wiki/The_Dietary_Law

He observed that there were male and female counterparts. Yet he did not find his counterpart. Some think that they did not know how to have sex before the fall, yet they had the animals doing it all around them.

He named her ‘Woman’ , but in Hebrew it means ‘fire’ אשה, which certainly indicates his feeling for her.

He says that man will leave his father and mother and ‘cleave’ to his wife. Here ‘mother’ is not the best translation. Father ‘ab’ אב and mother ‘am’ אם . Father-The one who created heaven and earth א the revealed himself ב. Mother- The one who created heaven and earth א then finished the work in the flesh ם.

It might be better to say “leave the “beginner and the ender” and cling to his wife. This is prophetic, because he will choose to leave God in order to be with his wife.

The word ‘cling’ means to stick to, to be an appendage of, to join. He was certainly expressing his intention.
