Luke, in Acts 12, buries a picture of Christ in his story line. Though the facts are true, he wrote it in such a way to show a parallel story of Christ.

Herod had vexed the church (the body of Christ) and Christ. One Herod had tried to kill him as an infant, and another participated in his trials.

Both Peter and Jesus were arrested the week before Passover.

Peter was chained between two guards, and Jesus hung between two thieves.

A light shone in the cell and in the tomb.

Both were poked in the side

Both had three barriers to escape: Two sets of guards and a gate, two days in death and a stone.

The gate and stone opened by them selves.

The first person Jesus saw was Mary, so Peter went to Mary's house.

Both women ran to tell the disciples, and both were told they were crazy.

When they finished visiting with the disciples, both went to another place.

They are many more parallels. Can you find them? Why did Luke write in this way? Because all of the Old Testament was written in this way. The difference is that Luke knew what had happened, and that the OT authors had no idea of what would happen. The hidden prophecies of Christ in the Old Testament are literally God's fingerprints on his word.
