Let a guy publish a book, or give him a title and it greatly hinders his ability to discern truth. [1] The most common response from pastors and professors at Christian colleges, universities and seminaries is: "I haven't heard it before, it can't be true." If this were the basis of truth you could never learn anything.
The second is: "That's too silly to be the word of God." [2] This is not much different than thinking one is capable of judging God. It is the same folly as those who believe the universe is billions of years old when they say it looks old, since they have never had two universes side by side by which to discern what a young universe might look like. They make their own opinions the basis of truth.
