Creeping things are those things which reproduce quickly. The lizard represents those whose desire for God has become dead.

The snail is a symbol of being separated from doctrine. See the tortoise. Both have a shell which allegorically 'protects' them from God.

The mole represents those who have died desolate. Suggestive of ded authors who were not alive in the spirit.
