Solving the riddles takes more than being clever, and yet you need not be clever to solve them. Card games are a mix of skill and chance. The requirement for skill engages your brain, where the element of chance helps to even the playing field. There is a similar dynamic for Biblical interpretation and understanding using knowledge and insight or inspiration.

When Peter declared that Jesus was the Messiah, the son of the living God, Jesus said it was a revelation. [1] However, Peter was unaware of the revelation. He thought it was obvious, while the others did not yet have a clue. The other disciples knew the scriptures, they had seen what Jesus had been doing and heard his teaching, but they did not understand; they did not correlate the scriptures with the life of Jesus.

Peter had an additional element to aid his understanding. God stuck his finger in Peter's head and stirred up the knowledge he had until it correlated; it came together;he had an "Aha!" moment. This is one of the reasons the Spirit is given to us, to help us remember what Jesus has taught us [2], where remembering is more than recollection, but meaningful correlation.

The unfortunate reality is that most people do not wish to put in the effort to know the scriptures well enough to allow God to help with understanding. They want magic knowledge or a burning bosom. But Jesus himself did not grasp at his omniscience and chose to learn as we do. Why should it be different for you? You must bring your cards to the table to play the game. "seek and you will find" [3]

The marriage supper of the Lamb is the explosion of doctrine that happened at the cross. All the hidden mysteries were revealed. Those who were invited to the banquet... the great teaching of the invisible God ... were too busy. They were busy with stuff they thought was a part of living while passing by LIFE itself. "Seek/search" the scripture for in them is Life which is Christ (the riddles of Christ). [4]

"Knock/beat on" your understanding. Eyes and seeing are a symbol of understanding. And Christ is the door. [5] Meditate, ruminate, chew on, wrestle with the word of God placing Christ and the cross at the center of those meditations and God will grant you understanding. "It's too hard to understand" but they haven't studied. [6]

People who have never studied the mystery will deny it exists. It is like blind men debating if there are rainbows.

The proof of God

When you have asked God for his wisdom (the ability to solve riddles); when you have studied to put knowledge in your head; when you have meditated up Christ in the word, God WILL give you wisdom. He cannot NOT give it to you; he promised. And when he has given you that insight; that "Aha!" moment, you will share it with others and they will be able to prove that God spoke to you, because they too will see it in scripture. No man has taught you, but God has. [7]
