The proof that there is a God and that he has spoken to you is that when you share what he has said, others will be able to validate it in the scripture. They will be able to do so, even if God has not revealed it to them because they will apply some rules that God has given in order to help prove it.

When you are holding your cards in a card game, no one knows what you have but you. This is like God speaking to you. You lay them down and you share what God has said. Then all the other players can validate your claim, they apply the rules of the game to evaluate the play. It is the same with Biblical interpretation.

You cannot use the rules to solve the riddles; only to validate them. Later we will speak of hints that will help you ruminate on the word of God, and assist in solving them. You can validate my work by them.

Rules

Divine meaning: This eliminates free-for-all allegory. The meaning must be a divine meaning. The validation of this is that the metaphor is the same everywhere. This is similar to a crossword puzzle where the letters lock in the words.

Christocentric: It always participates in building a picture of Christ.

Self-contained: The answers to riddles always come from scripture.

Complete: A doctrine sums up and includes everything the scripture has to say about it in all four layers of interpretation.

Rigorous: A doctrine is not established by a single verse but must have corroboration.

Humility: Since it is impossible to read the Bible completely, we stand ready to be corrected by it as we come to a better understanding.

Self examination: The doctrine will never exalt the flesh, nor denigrate Christ. It will not justify sin, nor minimize the need for holiness.

In the next few notes these will be examined more closely.
