Scholars have observed that from time to time, New Testament authors use Old Testament references in ways that they consider illegitimate. Some are so bold to say that Jesus and the Apostles would flunk their hermeneutics classesfor misappropriating the Old Testament. They admit they don't know how to read the Old Testament the way that Jesus and the apostles did.
During the debates and discussions of the last century, these scholars used the term sensus plenior to describe the meaning that God intended in the scriptures that was unknown to the human authors. They only invited those who could not read the scriptures the way that Jesus did. As a result, it was like blind men debating if rainbows exist. Some said that rainbows (sensus plenior) does not exist, and even suggesting that they do puts your salvation at risk. Some say that the NT authors invented the rainbows from the OT text. Others say they do exist, but we are not allowed to look for them because we are not apostles.
