God used the imagery of marriage concerning his relationship with Israel. Idolatry was called adultery. And when God had enough, he divorced Israel. [1]
- God doesn't hate divorce because it is some sort of unforgivable sin, he hates it because he was divorced; it is the separation of two who should be one. [2]
