Primary metaphor

The Word of God revealed to man. As a prefix it means in because the Word of God has come into the world. It is the first letter of the alphabet, and a a prefix to reshit ראשית beginning is translated in. It could just as well be seen as the title to the book of Genesis A revelation to man and is read as such when the word is read 'by the letters'. [1]
