Primary metaphor
Caution: The font used on your device may altar the shape of the hei. The top right corner is a right angle; not rounded as some fonts show.
The hei ה represents the spoken work of God which is heard but not understood. It is the same as 'the blind' since 'seeing' is a metaphor for understanding. The sheep hear but do not understand. [1]
The first hei is in Elohim אלהים
Elohim is translated as 'God'. One of the embedded meanings is 'God el אל separated from his people im ים [2] by their blindness ה'. His people do not understand him. His sheep hear his voice but don't understand the words which are taught.
Hei as the
- Ge 1:1 ¶ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Hei is used as a prefix meaning 'the' but it still retains it's meaning as hearing but not understanding or blind.
' The heavens את השמים and the earth ' את הארץ can be read as ' all that is את blind ה in heaven and all that is את blind ה in earth .
The primary teaching of the Bible is so that we can know God.
Not understanding is the heart of chaos
- Ge 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
'Chaos' or 'Without form' tohuw תהו has a hei ה at the center. Removing it leaves a mark or writing תו. Writing which is not understood is chaos or without form. The hei retains its meaning as it is used to build words.
Alas! or woe הו
'That which is not understood' hei ה is made clear vav ו. The result is either an insight (alas!) or regret (woe).
