New Jerusalem

New Jerusalem

'Jerusalem' means 'teaching of peace', so the 'New Jerusalem' is the new teaching of peace. [1]

When the Hebrews removed leaven from their homes, they were not symbolically removing their sin, but removing the old teaching of the law in preparation for the teaching of peace. [2]
During the sermon on the mount, Jesus repeatedly said "You have heard it said... but I say...". [3] He was ushering in the new teaching of peace. The kingdom (teaching) of heaven was "at hand". [4] It was there in front of them in the teaching of Jesus.
  1. Heb 8:13 In that he saith, A new [covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old [is] ready to vanish away.
  2. Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, [and] not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
  3. Mt 5:21, 27, 33, 38, 43
  4. Kingdom at hand
