Spoke with authority

When the religious rulers taught, they quoted the teaching of their teachers. They debated each other, one school against the other, ever increasing the tomes of religious opinion concerning the scripture. When Jesus taught, he taught with authority [1] [2]

They marveled at the teaching of Jesus because he had not been taught. Many scholars take the position that Jesus must have been under the tutelage of a a rabbi; some suggesting even that of John the Baptist. The latter is nonsensical since John was only a few months older than Jesus. But Jesus said that his training was from God. [3] [4]
