Q: Jesus said that we should not judge. According to the CSB the unrighteous man is 'detestable'? How can he be if we are not judging? Answer:

Q: Q Pr 29:27 Q2 Answer:

± Pr 29:27

± Pr 29:27 ¶ An unjust man [1] [is] an abomination [2] to the just [3]: and [he that is] upright [4] in the way [5] [is] abomination to the wicked [6].

CSB An unjust person is detestable to the righteous, and one whose way is upright is detestable to the wicked.

¢ Recently a young man who loves to be called father by his followers posted this verse: Pr 29:27 An unjust person is detestable to the righteous, and one whose way is upright is detestable to the wicked.

Can you see what is wrong with it? When the answer is "there is nothing wrong with it and re-reading should make it plain because it is in the Bible", you know there is an issue of humility.

Let's ask some questions:

1. How can anyone be detestable if you love him?

2. Didn't Jesus say that we should love our enemies?

3. How many are just? Haven't all sinned?

4. How can someone be detestable if you are not judging them?

5. If you are judging them, are you not judging God who made them?

Now do you see the problem? The verse out of context justifies the hypocrite in his self-righteousness for judging and looking down at others. This, by the way, is the way that Satan reads the Bible.

Jesus said that all the scriptures speak of him. Perhaps we get a different view by looking at the KJV: Pr 29:27 ¶ An unjust man [is] an abomination to the just: and [he that is] upright in the way [is] abomination to the wicked.

Now look at it through the eyes of Christ as a prophecy concerning Christ.

A paraphrase: The sinner has made Christ to be sin, and the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.

Teaching the Bible is not merely plastering Facebook with Bible verses and no context. It is the revelation of the mystery which has been hidden from the beginning and which has now been made known through the cross.

  1. unjust manS unjust man
  2. abomination S abomination
  3. justS just
  4. upright S upright
