Divorced Israel

God used the imagery of marriage concerning his relationship with Israel. Idolatry was called adultery. And when God had enough, he divorced Israel.

God doesn't hate divorce because it is some sort of unforgivable sin, he hates it because he was divorced; it is the separation of two who should be one.

Jer 3:8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

Ge 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
