Is 53:4 ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Why is the author so sure that he was bearing our griefs and sorrows? Reason it this way: He is God incarnate, and has no griefs or sorrows of his own. Therefore the griefs and sorrows her experiences must be ours. Yet we did not esteem him.

'Surely' אכן means 'I am smiting the son of man to death'.
