For Marty
John was the last author to write and had much more time to become proficient in discerning the '...mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,..."
As he interprets Genesis 1:1, he introduces elements of the mystery: The Word, Light, and Life. He is the only one of the four gospel authors to identify and summarize the other designations in the symbol of the Lamb.
- Joh 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
- Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
- Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
Word
Light
- Mt 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
- Joh 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
- Joh 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Life
- Ge 1:20 ¶ And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl [that] may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
