Being led by the Spirit and following your gut are not the same thing.
- Pr 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
- Pr 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Something that just pops in your head is not necessarily inspiration. Diligently apply the rules to ensure that you have found God's intended meaning.
