Revision as of 12:52, 4 January 2014

Being led by the Spirit and following your gut are not the same thing.

Pr 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Pr 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Something that just pops in your head is not necessarily inspiration. Diligently apply the rules to ensure that you have found God's intended meaning.

Sometimes the whole sense of a verse can reverse in the language of riddle.

The Spirit's role in hermeneutics

The Spirit produced the scriptures

2Ti 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.

The Spirit teaches and reminds you of what you know

Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

It should be noted that that we learn through study:

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The Spirit gives wisdom

[[Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
