Chapter 1.1.2 Dalet, Hei, Chet

These three letters represent a spoken word, hearing, and seeing or understanding

דהח

Dalet ד not rosh ר

The dalet represents the spoken word of God. The upper horizontal represent heavenly things to be communicated. The right vav represents the act of communicating. The right angle between the horizontal and the vertical means that it is a communication, not a revelation. Ordinarily we make little distinction between the two. But the a rounded corner would suggest that there were not only words communicated, but personality, as in the rosh. The dalet can be a command, or a teaching.

Hei ה

The hei is a dalet with a short vav returning on the left side. The returning vav starts on the lower or earthly end. The word which was spoken was heard but not fully understood. Hearing is a metaphor of the same idea. The sheep hear the shepherds voice but do not understand his words. [1] [2]

Chet ח

The chet looks like a hei, but the returning vav extends all the way to the heavenly horizontal. The response of the one who heard the spoken word (the dalet) is now in knowing. Seeing is a metaphor for understanding. [3]
