Isa 55:1

Isa 55:1 ¶ Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Ho, every one that thirsteth

Dry ground metaphor

come ye to the waters

and he that hath no money

The Hebrew word mamin means 'the one believing'. See Deut 1:32 for the plural form. מאמינם and the singular in Is 28:16 מאמין No man can serve God and himself.

Mt 6:25 ¶ Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

The root nature of original sin is that man makes himself out to be a god. He places his own interests first, and makes his own rules for good and evil. The opposition to God is not devils demons or money. It is the self. You cannot serve God and self.

He does not conclude by saying "Take no thought for what is in your pocket, purse or bank account". He addresses the objects that the instinctive nature of man places first: life, food, drink, clothing. These are the things that even the believer is tempted to put before God because of our sinful flesh.

come ye, buy, and eat;

yea, come, buy wine and milk

without money and without price

You have nothing to give and no one is asking.

Isa 55:2

Isa 55:2 Wherefore do ye spend money for [that which is] not bread? and your labour for [that which] satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye [that which is] good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

Why do you use what you have, for that which is not the cross? and your work for tyhat which does not satisfy (it is not fish)? Listen to me, meditate on that which is good, and let your soul delight in the earthly manifestations of the Spirit.

Isa 55:3

Isa 55:3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, [even] the sure mercies of David.

Listen and come to me, hear (though you don't understand) and your soul will live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of the beloved.

Isa 55:4

Isa 55:4 Behold, I have given him [for] a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.

Behold I have given Christ as a witness to the people. a leader and commander to the people.

Isa 55:5

Isa 55:5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation [that] thou knowest not, and nations [that] knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

Behold Christ shall call a nation that is not Israel, and Gentiles shall run unto you because of the Lord your God, and for the Christ of Israel.; For he has glorified you [Christ].

Isa 55:6

Isa 55:6 ¶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Isa 55:7

Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Prepare the way of the Lord by repenting of both kinds of sin, let him return to the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him, and abundantly pardon.

How does one 'return' to the Lord? It is implied that he was once with the Lord. When was this? Paul has correctly deduced from this an/or other such passages, that he was once alive without the law, and then the law came and he died.

Ro 7:9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

Who returns to the Lord?

Ec 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Isa 55:8

Isa 55:8 For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
