Kenosis
kenosis [1] - to empty or make void
The proper doctrine of kenosis does not claim that Christ ceased being God when he 'emptied himself'. He never ceased being God.
An analogy to kenosis might be closing one's eyes. When you close your eyes, you do not become blind. You simply choose not to use your sight.
The Eternal Word chose to 'close his eyes' to his omnipresence and limit himself to the body of a child who would move about and only be in one place at one time.
He chose to 'close his eyes' to his omnipotence and limit himself to the strength provided by the muscle and sinew of human flesh.
He chose to limit his omniscience and limit himself to the knowledge of a new human brain which would learn who he was and what he was to do from the scriptures he helped write before the incarnation.
In the grave he opened his eyes to his divinity and raised himself from the dead. [1] [2]- ↑ Joh 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
- ↑ Joh 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up...Joh 2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
