What is the Book of Revelation about?

One thing is for certain, the Book of Revelation is not what you may think it is. To demonstrate this, we will examine Rev 17:10 , 11 in light of the genealogies of Genesis to show the nature of a beautiful riddle which speaks of Christ.

Re 17:10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
Re 17:11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

We will examine them in light of the Genealogies in Genesis

Ge 4:17 and Ge 5:1

As you read the genealogies:

1. How many generations in Cain's, How many in Seth's?
2. Who lived? Who did not live?
3. Which names appear in both lists?
4. What do the names mean? Particularly of the ones on both lists.
5. Of the names in Cain's list, How many have a name representing an animal?
6. What do donkeys represent in metaphor?

'

Gen 4 Gen 5
Cain Seth
Enoch Enos
Irad Cainan
Mehujael Mahalaleel
Methusael Enoch
Lamech Jared
Jabal - Jubal & TubalCain Methusalah
Lamech
Noah
Shem, Ham, Japheth

How many generations? Five were

In the seven generations of Cain, two of the names appear in the genealogy of Seth. Hold those aside as we speak of the remaining five generations.

Read the two genealogies and pay attention to who lived. Every one of them lived:

Gen 5.3 And Adam lived
Gen 5.5 And all the days that Adam lived
Gen 5.6 ¶ And Seth lived
Gen 5.7 And Seth lived
Gen 5.9 And Enos lived
Gen 5.10 And Enos
Gen 5.12 And Cainan lived
Gen 5.13 And Cainan lived
Gen 5.15 And Mahalaleel lived
Gen 5.16 And Mahalaleel lived
Gen 5.18 And Jared lived
Gen 5.19 And Jared lived
Gen 5.21 ¶ And Enoch lived
Gen 5.22 And Enoch walked with God
Gen 5.25 ¶ And Methuselah lived
Gen 5.26 And Methuselah lived after
Gen 5.28 ¶ And Lamech lived
Gen 5.30 And Lamech lived after
Gen 5.32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Now read Genesis 4. The word 'lived' does not occur once. Seth children lived. Cain's children did not live. Consider the language of riddle. If you did not live, you died. Out of the seven we have put two aside. The remaining 5 we will say 'were'. Five were.

One is

This is riddle, or hidden wisdom: What happened to Enoch? Though they were two different men, the two Enochs become one in riddle.

Ge 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he [was] not; for God took him.

Enoch walked with God. He did not die. He is.

One is to come

The name Lamech means 'power'. Jesus will come in power. Lamech is to come.

Meanings of the names

Name Meaning animal/beast? Christ
Cain possessor, spear (m. the sins of the church)[1] [2] - He possessed the sins of the church
Enoch dedicated - totally devoted to the Father
Irad a wild ass [3] x The Son of God as prophet
Mehujael smitten by God - The Father gave his Son
Methusael who is of God - Incarnate God
Lamech powerful - called 'Mighty God'
Jabal - Jubal Water, water - word of God in heaven and earth
TubalCain leads the sins of the church (Cain) - The Son, as Prophet, took the sins of the church

Only one beast

Irad is the only one whose name represents a beast.

Re 17:10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
Re 17:11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

there are seven kings: There are seven generations in the genealogy of Cain. They fully represent Christ. Each name was a representation of Christ.

five are fallen: Two of the generations are on both lists. The remaining 5 did not 'live'.

and one is: Enoch walked with God and 'is'.

and the other is not yet come: Christ has not yet come in power. and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

And the beast that was, and is not,: Christ is the Son of God and Prophet, he died and returned to heaven.

even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, Christ leads the sins of the church.

and goeth into perdition: and removes them.

Re 17:10,11 Christ takes away the sins of the church.
