With the diagonal [[vav]], he spoke into the void dividing two creations, represented by the [[yud]]s. The [[vav]] is diagonal. If it were vertical it would only have divided time and eternity. A horizontal [[vav]] would only divide heaven and earth. Being diagonal, we are told that when God spoke creation into existence, part of creation existed in time, and part of it (one of the created heavens) outside of time.
The alef is the first letter of the alefbet it is also the number 1, but the the name alef means 1000.

It is the first letter of the scriptures, but it is not only silent, it is invisible. From this we discern that when God created the universe, he did it when there was no one there to hear or SEE it either.
