Sensus plenior – the deeper meaning of scripture.
Divine authorial intent as a hermeneutical principle must be viewed as the goal of interpretation. - Richard Barcellos
It should be the goal of every man to determine what God would say to him. Without reservation the claim can be made that the sensus plenior of the Bible is the single most important message to mankind for this reason alone:
- It speaks of nothing but Christ and him crucified. Christ is the mystery that was hidden from the beginning.
A quick search will reveal that modern theologians admit that they cannot read the Old Testament scriptures in the same manner as did Jesus and the apostles. Some go so far as to forbid others from attempting it. Even Jewish roots and Messianic, as helpful as they are with cultural issues concerning Judaism, do not teach how to read the Bible as did the Bereans.
If one cannot read the scriptures as did Jesus and the apostles, what assurance is there that you can read them at all?
Jesus taught the disciples to read the Old Testament properly; seeing him in them, and they teach us through the New Testament testimony.
This site examines the claim of Jesus:
- Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
And seeks to discover the contents of the sermon on the road to Emmaus:
- Lu 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Introduction
http://sensusplenior.net has four associated portals: This wiki, a blog, a forum and a Facebook group.
Wiki
The wiki started as a way to document things as pictures of Christ exploded everywhere, and as a tool to do research in the metaphoric nature of Hebrew letters. Occasionally articles were started in an attempt to explain what sensus plenior was. It was not very accessible to those who were new to it, and this new Main Page is an attempt to rectify that.
Wikis are generally editable by anyone. This is not the case here. There has been so much animosity against sensus plenior, and so much work to keep ad bots and spammers out, that I just have to restrict access to those who seriously wish to participate.
Blog
I haven't gotten use to blogging yet. I may eventually get around to doing short teasers to wiki articles, or invitations to participatory Bible studies in the forum.
Forum
This is a place that is most accessible for dialog, and collaboration and discussion about the wiki articles. We may conduct Bible studies there, present challenges, or collaborate in solving riddles and mysteries.
Facebook group
This is more casual than the forum, and is used for more immediate announcements since many more people check Facebook more frequently.
Bible study
Participatory Bible studies take place on the forum and the result will show up in the wiki as study Bible entries. You may use the search box to see if there are entries for scriptures you are studying. We use the book notation of the Online Bible.
Bible divisions in use relate to vignettes of Christ at various levels based in sensus plenior. The very top view of the Bible is called Book of life.
Revealed theology
God desires that we know him. From the beginning, it was his plan that the Son should reveal the Father. In light of the testimony of the disciples concerning Christ. This study discerns God's revelation of himself from the beginning. [1]
Hebrew from scratch
Hebrew letters have metaphors which are made of strokes which are metaphors, and build into gates, roots and words by combining metaphors. [2]
Sensus plenior
This section will discuss sensus plenior itself, where most other section put it in practice.
